HMS Unicorn’s New Dockside Garden

HMS Unicorn – Scotland’s Oldest Ship – has created a brand-new dockside garden outside the vessel in Victoria Dock.

Funded by Postcode Local Trust and working in partnership with local mental health charity Wellbeing Works, the ship has placed a series of large wooden planters along the dockside to create a unique greenspace on South Victoria Dock Road. The new garden will grow a variety of edible plants that can be enjoyed by the local community at Dundee’s waterfront.

Despite the difficulties of the pandemic, a huge amount of progress has been made over the summer and autumn. Finlay Raffle, the Learning & Engagement Officer at HMS Unicorn, said, “It has been so fantastic to see the dockside coming to life and the Wellbeing Works Greenbud gardeners taking the lead on this wonderful new project. We cannot wait to see the garden develop and burst into colour in Spring 2021!”

A special thank you goes out to Dundee & Angus Wood Recycling who built all the new dockside planters. The HMS Unicorn Dockside Garden project has been made possible by an award from Postcode, a grant-giving charity funded entirely by players of People’s Postcode Lottery
