    Supporting HMS Unicorn

How you can help us to sustain the ship

Join the crew at HMS Unicorn!

Volunteers help us to maintain and preserve HMS Unicorn, bring her stories to life for as wide an audience as possible and become part of the ship’s history themselves. If you want to make a difference in your local community, why not volunteer with us!

Our volunteer programme offers people the opportunity to support activities on the ship. As well as contributing to the future of HMS Unicorn, volunteers will be able to learn different skills, meet new people and develop their confidence with support and training from the team.

There are a wide range of roles that cater to people of different interests and backgrounds. Whether you enjoy sharing stories with visitors, helping with maintenance tasks, or working behind the scenes,  HMS Unicorn can benefit from your support.

If you are looking to volunteer for a specific period of time, we can cater to your availabilty with seasonal or placement-based opportunities.

Our active volunteering roles include:

  • Delivering tours for our visitors
  • Shipkeeping to keep Unicorn clean and tidy
  • Documentation of the museum objects
  • Helping at Activities and Events

You don't need any experience or qualifications, just be enthusiastic, reliable and helpful!

Our team work also with local organisations to provide voluntary roles for individuals with additional support needs. These hands-on positions offer volunteers the chance to work alongside our team and learn skills in a new and welcoming environment.
