HMS Unicorn's vision and mission aim to make our collections and ship accessible to all, and to offer lifelong learning and engagement opportunities for our local communities and beyond. We use our ship as a catalyst for developing skills and improving people's lives.

Community & Outreach
Community is at the heart of HMS Unicorn and we provide a programme of events to encourage learning and access for all.
From specially arranged tours to partnering with other charities on outreach projects, our team is dedicated to ensuring the ship is an inclusive environment at the centre of the community. We offer a safe and welcoming space for people to visit, learn and volunteer.
Our regular activities include:
- Self-guided visits

- On board events
- Partnership projects
- Volunteering and mentoring

Young People & Youth Groups
The Unicorn Preservation Society is a signatory of the Young Person's Guarantee and committed to the Make Your Mark scheme.
Our team works with a variety of partners such as schools, colleges & universities, charities and other third sector organisations. We work with them to offer training, employment, educational placements and learning opportunities particularly for young people facing barriers to employment.
Our regular activities include:
- Internships and placements
- Work experience programmes
- Outreach events
- Employability scheme placements
- Regular or fixed-term volunteering opportunities

With our schools programme designed to support the Curriculum for Excellence, your class will get the opportunity to explore their heirtage by immersing themselves in 200 years of history and discovering life on board Scotland’s oldest ship.
Our range of interactive tours and hands-on workshops help pupils to become:
- Succesful learners
- Confident individuals
- Responsible citizens
- Effective contributors
